Matchbox Cine and Weird Weekend are committed to continually improving access to our event(s). If you have any access needs or queries related to access either in person or online, please get in touch: megan@matchboxcine.com.
Age
Since many of the films we screen are unrated, the festival can not admit under-18s, with no exceptions.
Descriptive subtitles
All films in the Weird Weekend programme screen with descriptive subtitles on by default. Descriptive subtitles incorporate all the spoken dialogue of a film as well as text labels describing any dramatically relevant information, otherwise contained only in the soundtrack (including music and sound effects). Matchbox Cinesub creates brand-new descriptive subtitle files wherever necessary and ensures the quality of any files provided by film-makers or distributors.
Audio description
All films and pre-shows at Weird Weekend event have optional audio description, headsets available on request. Matchbox Cinesub creates brand-new audio description tracks wherever necessary and ensures the quality of any files provided by film-makers or distributors.
No films screened by Weird Weekend prior to the 2024 programme featured audio description. This is mostly because Weird Weekend heretofore was produced and delivered with no institutional funding, so we were unable to create or commission new audio description files for films which didn’t already have them. We intend to continue improving our access provision in a number of ways, and audio description across the programme is a key priority.
Live captions
All Weird Weekend’s In Conversations and post-screening Q&As have live captions, displayed on screen.
Content Notes & Trigger Warnings
All films in our programme have content warnings, as necessary, in the programme listings and in slides that appear on screen before each film begins. The purpose of content warnings is to allow audience members to make informed decisions on what they watch, to prepare for situations depicted or described that may provoke involuntary negative or traumatic responses, and if necessary to avoid those depictions or descriptions altogether. On the very rare occasion we’re unable to view a film before screening, the lack of content warnings will be acknowledged.
Venue
OFFLINE Cinema is a brand-new, DIY screening space and a work-in-progress. It has step-free access from the street, but currently it has no fully accessible toilet. The space will develop and improve over 2024/2025, with accessibility as a priority.
OFFLINE’s venue website is here.
