Motorama (Barry Shils, 1991)

Friday 30.08.24 @ OFFLINE | 19.00 | 1hr 30m

Ten-year-old runaway Gus (Jordan Christopher Michael) sets out on a road trip to collect gaming cards with the hope of winning a $500 million grand prize.

A full-tilt, road-roving anti-consumerist fantasia from the writer of Vampire’s Kiss and After Hours, Motorama is set in an America squintingly reminiscent of the real world, where the currency is Dutch guilders and ten-year-olds can plausibly hit the highway to chase their fortune. Motorama, midwifed by renegade producer Donald P Borchers, careens past cameos from cult cinema icons Jack Nance (Eraserhead, Twin Peaks), Dick Miller (Gremlins, A Bucket of Blood), Mary Woronov (Eating Raoul, Night of the Comet) and Susan Tyrrell (Forbidden Zone, Fat City) as well as Meat Loaf, Drew Barrymore and, inevitably, the undisputed Hollywood Cameo King, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
