Overchoice: The 5-to-1 Game

Sunday 27.10.24 @ OFFLINE | 20.00
2hrs | Hosted by Puke

Five films, five minutes, one choice – and it belongs with you, the audience! To close this year’s festival, we’ll offer you the first five minutes of five incredible films, and then the choice of which one to watch through together. The line-up is selected from the vaults of our friends at the American Genre Film Archive (AGFA), including at least one not yet on disc. And even if you’re familiar with them, to counter the option paralysis of the streaming service doom scroll, we recommend this remedy – pick the one you want everyone else to see.

“There comes a time when choice, rather than freeing the individual, becomes so complex, difficult and costly, that it turns into its opposite. There comes a time, in short, when choice turns into overchoice and freedom into un-freedom.” Alvin Toffler, Future Shock (1970)

NB the entire Weird Weekend programme is presented with descriptive subtitles and optional audio description.
