Deepfake is a technique for human image synthesis based on artificial intelligence. Recent advances mean anyone with a capable desktop computer can easily create and share convincing videos which wrap anyone’s face on to pre-existing footage – whether it’s Bill Murray’s…or yours
The dawn of the Deepfake means we’re on the threshold of a thrilling, chilling, new, weird age where the lines between truth and fantasy are more blurred than ever. But what will it mean for cinema when we can convincingly recast decades-old movies or casually ‘re-skin’ actors’ performances?
We’re joined by prominent Deepfake creator Ctrl Shift Face and a panel of special guests, including Dr Christopher Holliday and artist Tessa Ratuszynska, to discuss the strange possibilities of the Deepfake.
A feature-length curated programme of Deepfake clips, created by Ctrl Shift Face and others, will play on a loop in CCA’s Cinema, throughout Weird Weekend 2019:
